Laser hair removal has been around for decades, and most clients have either tried it or know someone who has. What's changed is the technology. The lasers used in most clinics ten or fifteen years ago — and many still running in spas today — were uncomfortable, slow, limited in what skin tones they could safely treat, and inconsistent in their results.

At Rejuvia, we use the Motus AY, one of the most advanced laser hair removal platforms in the world. It's faster, more comfortable, and most importantly, safe and effective across the full range of skin tones — including the darker skin types that traditional lasers couldn't safely treat.

Why Motus AY

The Motus AY is a dual-wavelength laser platform combining Alexandrite (755nm) and Nd:YAG (1064nm) — two of the most clinically validated wavelengths in laser hair removal. The Alexandrite wavelength is highly effective on lighter skin tones and finer hair. The Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates deeper and is the gold standard for safely treating darker skin. Having both in one platform means your provider can select — and even combine — the right wavelength for your skin and hair at every session.

What sets the Motus AY apart from older lasers is its Moveo handpiece technology. Traditional laser hair removal works by firing high-energy pulses with a cooling burst between each shot — effective, but often described as feeling like a rubber band snap or a hot pinch, especially in sensitive areas. The Moveo handpiece uses lower energy delivered in continuous, in-motion passes through a cooled sapphire tip. The result is a treatment that most clients describe as a warm massage rather than a series of zaps — without compromising on results.

For our clients, that translates into three real differences: treatments that are genuinely comfortable, sessions that move faster (especially on larger areas like legs and back), and safe, effective results on skin tones that older lasers couldn't treat without risk of burns or pigmentation changes.

What Laser Hair Removal Does

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by the follicle and converted to heat, which disables its ability to produce new hair. Because hair grows in cycles and only follicles in the active growth phase respond to treatment, a series of sessions is required to achieve full clearance.

For most clients and most areas, six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart produces 80–95% permanent reduction. Coarser hair (legs, underarms, bikini) typically responds faster than finer hair (face, arms). Hormonally driven hair (chin, jawline, abdomen) may require additional sessions and ongoing maintenance.

What to Expect

A typical session takes 5 to 45 minutes depending on the area treated. Small areas (lip, chin, underarms) are quick. Larger areas (legs, back, full body) take longer. No numbing is required for most clients given how comfortable the Moveo handpiece is, though we'll always check in throughout your session and adjust if needed.

After treatment, the area may feel warm — similar to a mild sunburn — for a few hours. Most clients return to normal activities immediately. Treated hairs typically shed over the following one to three weeks. New growth in the treated area will be slower, finer, and progressively sparser with each session.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines

Avoid waxing, plucking, threading, or epilating for at least four weeks before treatment — these methods remove the hair root, which the laser needs to target. Shaving is fine and is actually required (the area should be shaved 24 hours before your session). Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for two weeks before treatment. We'll send you full pre-treatment instructions when you book.

Post-Treatment Care

Avoid direct sun exposure and use SPF on treated areas. Avoid hot showers, saunas, intense exercise, and exfoliating skincare for 24 to 48 hours. Treated hair will shed naturally — do not pluck or wax. Continue shaving as needed between sessions.

Who's a Candidate

The Motus AY is safe and effective across all skin tones. It is not appropriate for clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have a history of keloid scarring at the treatment area, who have active skin infections or open lesions, who have used isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past six months, or who have certain photosensitizing medical conditions we'll screen for at your consultation.

Laser hair removal is most effective on hair with pigment. Very light blonde, gray, white, and red hair contain little to no melanin and may not respond to laser treatment. We'll always confirm candidacy and set realistic expectations at your consultation.
