What your labs say.

Bloodwork isn’t a report card — it’s a map. Here’s how to read yours, marker by marker, in plain English. Educational only: your provider interprets your results in the context of your health, history, and goals.

Start here: ranges are not verdicts.

“Normal range” means the middle of the population — not necessarily what’s optimal for you. Two people can have the same number and feel completely different. That’s why a good lab review looks at patterns across markers, how you feel, and how your numbers trend over time, not a single value in isolation.

Energy & metabolism

Fasting glucose and HbA1c show how your body handles sugar — day to day and averaged over about three months. Creeping numbers often show up years before anyone uses the word “pre-diabetes,” and they’re one of the earliest signs that weight, energy, and cravings are being driven by biology rather than willpower.

Fasting insulin is the quieter cousin — it can rise long before glucose does. Elevated insulin with normal glucose is a classic early pattern in people who feel tired after meals and struggle to lose weight.

Thyroid markers (TSH, free T3, free T4) set your metabolic thermostat. Sluggish thyroid function can look like fatigue, weight gain, cold hands, thinning hair, and low mood — which is why we test the full picture, not TSH alone.

Hormones

Testosterone (total and free) matters for men and women — energy, drive, muscle, recovery, and mood all lean on it. In men, a slow decline often reads as “just getting older” when it’s actually measurable and addressable. Free testosterone matters because much of the total is bound and unavailable.

Estradiol and progesterone shape cycles, sleep, skin, and mood. Patterns matter more than single values here, especially through perimenopause.

Cortisol is your stress hormone. Chronically elevated or flattened patterns show up as wired-but-tired days, stubborn midsection weight, and poor sleep.

Vitamins & nutrients

Vitamin D acts more like a hormone than a vitamin — immunity, mood, bone health, and energy all depend on it, and most Texans are lower than they’d guess despite the sunshine.

B12, folate, and iron/ferritin are the classic fatigue trio. Low ferritin in particular is an underdiagnosed cause of exhaustion, hair shedding, and restless sleep — especially in women.

Inflammation & longevity

hs-CRP measures low-grade inflammation — the slow burn behind many chronic issues. Homocysteine adds cardiovascular context. Together with your lipid panel (and ApoB where tested), these markers say more about long-term heart health than cholesterol alone.

What to do with all this

Print your results. Circle anything flagged — and anything “normal” that sits near the edge of its range. Then bring the list of how you actually feel: sleep, energy, cravings, mood, recovery. A provider’s job is to connect those two lists — and build a plan that moves both.

At Rejuvia, lab consults include on-site draws, panels matched to your goals, and a provider who walks you through every marker — no PDF left unexplained.
